WeblogJoin Us On Board the East Coast Rx Express!by Jerry Flanagan, (310) 392-0522 ext. 319 Dear Friends, From October 11th through October 14th, the Foundation for Taxpayer and Consumer Rights (FTCR) -- a nonpartisan consumer advocacy group -- will charter a private train to take seniors and other patients to Toronto, Canada to legally purchase lower cost U.S. made prescription drugs. We will pick up passengers and hold press conferences in cities throughout Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Washington D.C., Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York. Please help us recruit for the Rx Express! We are looking for seniors and patients with significant out-of-pocket expenses for their prescription drugs to join us. The goal of the trip is to demonstrate the tremendous disparity between prices of prescription drugs in Canada and what we pay here in the U.S. as well as to highlight the need for a national drug bulk-purchasing program and other policies to provide access to lower cost prescriptions. Prescription drugs are available in Canada, England, Ireland and other countries at 30-60% less than in the United States because those countries negotiate rates on behalf of all patients -- a move that drug companies have blocked in the U.S. FTCR is providing the train, accommodations, return airfare, and most meals at no charge to the riders. The train will pick up riders all along the East Coast and take participants to Toronto where they will be seen by a doctor and issued a Canadian prescription. Participants will be charged a nominal fee in Canada for the doctor's services and will be taken to a Canadian drug store to fill a three-month supply of each prescription for which the patient will be charged. We will invite members of the news media to ride along with us to document the need for policies to provide access to lower cost prescription drugs in the U.S. Please contact us as soon as possible -- limited seats available.
